POLICE are investigating after a woman was subjected to racial abuse by a group of men.
North Yorkshire Police say the incident took place at about 4pm on Friday (May 7) as the woman walked through the park area of Esplanade Gardens, a group of five men shouted racist remarks at her. The men are described as white and were listening to music and drinking alcohol at the time.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: "Officers are requesting the public’s assistance to help establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident. In particular, they would be interested to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time who witnessed the incident, or overheard the comments made by the men.
"Anyone with information which would assist officers to identify the men, or CCTV images or mobile phone footage of the incident, should contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2, and ask to speak to PC Jacob Rushworth. You can also email jacob.rushworth@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk If you wish to remain anonymous, you can pass information to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
