FLAT-GREEN Bowlers across the country are preparing to take part in ‘Bowls’ Big Weekend’ this coming Bank Holiday.
And three York clubs are opening up their greens to encourage people to try the sport.
York RI Bowls Club bowls manager Mick O’Donnell said: “We are looking forward to being part of the national recruitment drive to try to encourage people, who haven’t tried bowls, to give it a go.
“We are holding some events over the weekend of Friday, May 28, to Monday, May 31, and the chief executive of Bowls England Jon Cockroft is coming to Yorkshire to visit some of the events taking place.
“The idea is that people are directed to the Big Bowls Weekend website and they can register to take part in one of the events.”
More than 625 clubs across the country have already registered to take part in the event, with Dunninton and Bishopthorpe also York-based clubs partaking.
Ricall and Selby Bowls Clubs are also involved, as are clubs in Filey, Helmsley and Thirsk.
