A COUPLE from York are celebrating a special anniversary today - 60 years of marriage.
Steve and Margaret Wilkinson, who live in Strensall, celebrate their Diamond Wedding today (May 20).
The pair were married in Hartlepool in 1961, where Steve was brought up and Margaret moved to at a young age.
They met at a pub in the area, which they called at during a bus trip which they were both on.
The couple have travelled to various places around the world, as Steve's job in the military as an army nurse, which he held for 22 years, involved him living in countries such as Hong Kong, Germany and Cyprus.
Margaret, 80, has always travelled with him, taking up various jobs along the way and living as a house wife.
Steve, 82, was also a monk before his time in the forces.
The couple, who have lived in York since 1980, have two sons together.
They plan to celebrate by travelling down to the Telford area once Covid restrictions are eased, as this is where some of their relatives are based.
"We will be looking to hire a bungalow, we really enjoy travelling around the UK", Steve said.
