A PERSONAL trainer is taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks to raise awareness of mental health after the tragic death of a young dad.
29-year-old Lee Murphy runs Lee Murphy Personal Training in Wighill and initially learned of the story of Tadcaster father of two Bruce Wetherhill from his clients.
As The Press reported earlier this month, Bruce, 31, took his own life in December last year leaving a hole at the heart of his family.
Lee said: “Several of my clients were good friends with Bruce. His young family, friends and many people in the local area have been deeply effected by what has happened.
“As a result I want to do something positive to help people with their mental health, especially after Covid."
Lee is running the Yorkshire Three Peaks on June 26 to raise money for the charity Mind.
“I was born and live in Tadcaster. It is a special community and we have seen just how people have come together with what has happened with Bruce.
“Doing this challenge is my way of helping and raising the awareness of mental health. The pandemic has meant many people have and continue to suffer with poor mental health,” he said.
“We need to do more and this is my way of doing something for Bruce and his family. He was a truly magnificent person and all proceeds go to the charity Mind.
“The link between exercise and mental health needs to be highlighted more. Exercise can improve mood, feelings of anxiety, helps combat depression and boosts energy levels."
