PICTURED here during the 1970s, York’s quiet and attractive Mount Parade.
In 1974, residents of the Georgian dwellings had expressed their concerns over a submitted planning application on behalf of the Holy Trinity Church, Micklegate.
The proposed build of 18 flats and 15 garages was earmarked for the land opposite the early 19th-century terrace houses, currently in use as allotments.
Residents of the historical area had already sent their written protests to the Environmental Department in London and York’s development and planning committee.
One resident also noted that people living on The Mount had already been notified of the proposed development before the residents of Mount Parade.
By 1975, readers of the York Press were still writing to the editor expressing their concerns for this secret corner of York.
