YOUNG people in North Yorkshire are being invited to apply for grants to create their own sex and relationship education projects.

The Terrence Higgins Trust Young Leaders Project hopes the scheme will help youngsters educate their friends and communities about the dangers of sexually-transmitted diseases and the need for sexual health.

The charity is looking for teenagers aged between 13 and 19 in the region to get involved by submitting their project ideas by the end of February.

They will then be assessed by the grant-giving scheme's panel of 12 young people.

"We are looking for young people to come up with innovative and creative ideas about how to educate their friends," said project manager Gareth Davies.

"If we like your idea, we'll give you some money to put it into practice. All youngsters need to do is get together with their youth club, school or other organisation to develop the idea and to make an application."
