PEOPLE wanting to find out more about how to trace their family tree are being invited to a series of workshops later this month.

Members of City of York Council's libraries are now able to track down their ancestors by using library computers to access the Ancestry.com website, which details birth, marriage and death records, census information, parish registers and other worldwide information.

To help customers familiarise themselves with the system, library staff are running four training sessions at York Central Library in Museum Street.

"Ancestry.com is the latest addition to York's libraries and we hope it will prove very popular with family historians across the city," said Sarah Garbacz, strategic manager at York's libraries.

"We hope the taster sessions will be very helpful, but the number of places is limited so we advise anybody who is interested to book as soon as possible. All customers need is a basic knowledge of computers and simple mouse skills."

The sessions run from 10am to 11.30am and 2pm to 3pm on Friday, January 18 and 25.

To book, phone 01904 552828 or call into York Central Library. Further courses will be arranged later this year.
