WITH reference to the article about the Chapman family's problems due to fireworks (Roof holed in rocket shock, The Press, January 3).
I just want to sympathise with them, as I had exactly the same thing done to me through my car port roof, only with me my car was underneath and it cost more than £300 to put my car right as there was a big dent in the car bonnet. I was in The Press, and also on local television and radio because of what happened.
The rocket that came and hit my car was absolutely massive; the shaft was about 3ft 6ins long and as thick as a finger.
The shaft split into six pieces, so you can tell what force it came through. The rocket head was made of a thick rubbery plastic.
If it had hit someone in a conservatory there is not a doubt it would have killed them.
I am no killjoy, but I agree with Mr Chapman that fireworks should be on a controlled display only as they are so very dangerous.
