A DINNER lady and devoted granny is celebrating after her homemade chicken nuggets made it onto supermarket shelves.
Claire Proctor, 47, admits being 'bowled over' by the response to her culinary creation which will be hitting the shelves of major supermarkets within weeks.
A dinner lady at HECK, Claire used to cook up her gourmet goujons to feed hungry workers at lunchtime using a recipe she had perfected at home with her grandchildren.
Chef Claire Proctor making her chicken nuggets with her grandchildren Florence Harrison, seven, and Nellie Harrison, four.
HECK co-founder, Jamie Keeble, liked them so much, he sent them out to retailers to try and now they are going on sale in 500 Asda stores from the end of this month and will be hitting Morrisons next month.
Claire, from Bramham, North Yorkshire, who is now known as Nanna Nugget, created her homemade chicken nuggets as a healthier option for her grandchildren and said: “I’m quite bowled over by the response.
"My family love this recipe, but I never thought I’d be able to feed them to the nation. It just shows it’s possible to create tasty, convenience food with no nasties that families really love. I’m already planning my next ideas.”
HECK’s Jamie Keeble hopes the new range that includes Chicken Italia and Piri Piri Chicken Nuggets will prove popular with families and fitness fans alike.
“Claire is an absolute genius in the kitchen. She cooks up fantastic meals for our team every day and I’m so excited that her golden nuggets are now available to the nation.
"There’s no hidden ingredients in ours and they have the added benefit of being gluten-free too. We’re hoping that some of the local schools will also put them on the menu as we know they’re a real hit with children.”
The lean and light recipes are made with finely-minced British chicken breast, herbs, spices and seasoning, all shaped and coated in a gluten-free crumb. The are available in two flavours – Chicken Italia and Piri Piri.
