York Schoolboys Under-11s extended their unbeaten run into the first outing of the new year when they toppled West Yorkshire rivals Leeds 3-1.

In heavy conditions and with a fierce gust blowing straight down the pitch, it was no suprise when Leeds won the toss they took advantage of the wind.

However, York started the stronger and actually took the game to Leeds.

Harvey Rowson-Jeffrey made some telling crosses from the right of midfield but again York could not capitalise and the first half ended scoreless.

Now backed by the elements, York surged forward and within minutes Rowan Capper despatched a left-foot shot into the Leeds net to break the deadlock.

Leeds' defenders manfully put their bodies on the line and were rewarded with ten minutes to go with an equaliser after a long ball caught York napping.

But within another two minutes the York advantage was restored.

Second-half substitute Lewis Rawdon was in the right place in a goalmouth scramble to poke over the line for York's second and surely winning goal.

However, York continued to press and Capper notched his second in the dying minutes for a 3-1 triumph.

Declared York's assistant manager Brendan Qualter: "The score was probably a fair reflection of York's overall dominance but we didn't take our early chances and that increased the pressure as the game went on.

"However, no team goes unbeaten for so long without having character within its ranks and when a draw seemed likely that spirit showed.

York were due to return to cup action today when they journeyed to Bassetlaw in the last eight of the Green 'Un Cup.
