AN unstoppable 25-yard effort from Josh Weathers earned Heworth a winning start to 2008 in the York FA Under-19s League.
The striker secured a 4-3 win for fourth-placed Heworth against basement side Poppleton.
Heworth took the lead after two minutes when Russell Carr netted following a goalmouth melee. Poppleton struck back with goals from Nick Moss and Luke Berridge to take the lead.
Heworth equalised through a powerful Weathers free-kick from outside the box.
But, on the stroke of half-time, Poppleton took a 3-2 lead with a Jack Doyle volley.
Early in the second half, Heworth drew level from the penalty spot through Luke Laverack and Weathers sealed a deserved win.
After a goalless first half, Dunnington ran riot to beat Wigginton Grasshoppers 7-1.
Simon Castle opened the scoring with a shot on the turn from nine yards and the same player added a second.
The arrears were reduced when Dunnington's Alex Lowe turned the ball into his own net but a superb solo goal from Tim Lamb restored Dunnington's two-goal advantage.
Grasshoppers heads dropped and Castle took his tally to four, while there were also goals from Kalvin Barlow and Dan Hall.
The derby between Rawcliffe and New Earswick finished in a 2-2 draw, with Rawcliffe 'keeper Tom Smallwood in top form.
Just before halftime, New Earswick took the lead when Luke Agar netted following a goalmouth scramble.
Rawcliffe drew level early in the second half when, following a breakaway down the right flank, Reece Chapelow netted from six yards.
New Earswick took the lead after Agar carried the ball into the box and coolly finished.
Seven minutes from time Jason Race finished off a fine team move for Rawcliffe to draw level.
Barker produced two point-blank saves to deny Rawcliffe a winner.
Huntington turned round 1-0 up against Tadcaster Albion thanks to a goal by Luke Goldthorpe.
But the game changed in the second half, when Tadcaster 'keeper Christian Derry switched to midfield. After Ben Wilson drew Albion level, Derry scored twice to put Tadcaster into a 3-1 lead. Alister Bell's header reduced the arrears but Tadcaster held on for a 3-2 win.
Top of the table Fulford, with Chris Baughan netting four, overwhelmed nine-man Strensall 9-0.
