SELBY RUFC Under-14s put one over on derby rivals Harrogate with a 12-7 victory.
It was end-to-end stuff from the off but it was Harrogate who took an early lead - securing a lineout on half-way and romping through unopposed to cross.
But, from the restart, Selby secured good ball and went through the phases, and Adam Brown was on hand to capitalise and steal over in the far corner.
Harrogate came back hard but Selby's greater determination eventually told when, after a long period camped inside the 22, Jay Robinson broke from the base of a five-metre scrum and powered over, Josh Cruise taking the simple conversion.
There were good performances from Ben Spence, Jif-Jif Alvara-do and powerful newcomer Sam Broughton, who showed real promise with several barnstorming runs from the back row.
Skipton were the next visitors to Sandhill Lane in a much-awaited Yorkshire Cup third round tie this weekend.
York RUFC U12s finally completed their first round fixture in the Yorkshire Cup with an emphatic 45-0 victory over Sheffield at Clifton Park.
York were too good for the visitors from South Yorkshire, and tries were spread between the forwards and backs, the scorers being Jake Garland, Adam Price, Seb Dobson (2), David Fathers (2) and Ollie Inman.
Four conversions were added by Arron Johnson and one by Dylan George.
It was such a comprehensive victory that the referee took pity on Sheffield and brought the game to an end prematurely.
