TWO wins, two defeats and a draw was the plunder exacted by the City of York Hockey Club's Under-12s A'-team in the Yorkshire Youth League at Halifax.
Starting slowly, the A' ranks lost 1-0 in both duels against Wakefield and Harrogate, against whom Rachel Hall and Maddie Onyett played well.
York then beat Slazenger's 1-0 with a goal by Fern Grimbley.
A similar result was posted against Ben Rhydding with Hannah Yoward notching the game's only strike.
The last game finished 0-0 with Kingston-upon-Hull.
After blank share-alls against Rotherham and Leeds, the B' team began to excel in the C' League.
The team then toppled Bradford 3-0 with Rebecca Birch bagging a brace of goals and Ellie Martin also on target.
Midfielders Katherine Birch and Sally Hicks were solid.
Scorers were Rebecca Birch, Lizzie Exall and Ellie Martin, while, yet again, Ellie Fletcher was solid in goal.
The C' team had to endure a lengthy wait before starting their D' League tests with a 1-0 triumph over Ben Rhydding B'.
The York defence was extremely good with Katie Harrison, Sophie Blackburn and Ellie Wood performing as if they had played for years not months. That gave them a platform on which to seal victory with a strike from Isabel Hall.
Next up was a 3-0 beating of Slazenger's B' in which the booty was shared between Isabel Hall and Merry Foster (2).
But that was followed by a 3-0 defeat against Doncaster, whose attack was too good for the York defence, while the lack of a goalkeeper did not aid the cause.
Determined defence from Sophie Blackburn, Kerra Williams and Katie Harrison deserved better.
In the last match, Halifax scored two quick goals. No matter how York tried, they were unable to reply. Halifax struck again at the double for a 4-0 win.
