A CARE home in York has been given a clean bill of health by inspectors.

Following a Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection, New Lodge a Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust (JRHT) home in New Earswick, received an overall 'good' rating for its residential and extra care services.

New Lodge opened two years ago and replaced Red Lodge care home in the village. It is a community for the over 55s with a residential care home as well as extra care apartments.

This is the first CQC inspection that has taken place at the home since it opened in October 2019. The CQC routinely inspects all new services but has only been carrying out limited inspections due to the coronavirus pandemic, therefore delaying this inspection of New Lodge.

Chris Simpson, Executive Director of JRHT said: "We are delighted with the outcome of this inspection, which can be attributed to the hard work and dedication of Lucy Atkinson, New Lodge registered manager, and her team.

"The staff were praised for their kind and caring approach with residents. They have developed positive relationships with residents through meaningful conversations and spending time with them to find out their diverse needs."

Inspectors found that residents received person-centred and responsive care, and care plans and risk assessment were detailed and provided staff with information to maintain people's quality of life.

Mr Simpson said: "I wish to pay tribute to Lucy and the entire team at New Lodge for the amazing job done.

"At JRHT we are very proud of this result and look forward to building on this, to develop the service in the future."
