A BUSY shopping street in the centre of York was set to reopen today after being closed for several days while an unstable chimney stack was repaired.
Hundreds of shoppers navigated their way round the barricades at the weekend after a short section of Coppergate was fenced off to pedestrians and vehicles.
Scaffolding was put up while workmen tried to fix the loose chimney stack on the Russells restaurant.
The damage to the chimney is believed to have been made worse by the recent strong winds.
The Press told on Saturday how the diversions had affected buses and taxis, which had to take longer routes.
