I have been working on the history of York College for the last year and we are now in the final stages of preparation for publication.
The "Tech" has a long history. Its roots are in the Mechanics' Institute of 1827, and it had three homes in York before moving out to Dringhouses in 1945.
It has always been closely connected to the fortunes of the city of York and surrounding area, reflecting the training needs of the industry and commerce of the day.
Finding photographs of three early principals has been problematic, and I am writing to ask if readers of The Press can help.
Thomas Jones was the first ever principal to be appointed, in 1928.
He was followed in 1950 by Reginald Kagan, who retired in 1965.
Phyllis Everitt was the head of the Marygate Centre from 1946 to 1974.
If anyone has photographs or memories of these three, or any other aspects of the life of the college, including the Day School of Commerce, I would like to hear from them.
I can be contacted through Jill Sissons at York College - phone 01904 770228.
Marjorie Harrison, Northfield Way, Appleton Roebuck, York.
