We sympathise greatly with Julie Dickens and her family (Dogs welcome, Letters, January 8) and the problem in finding dog-friendly accommodation and places to go where dogs are accepted.
It is a major problem which besets all dog owners, no matter where they live.We are no exception.
To put it bluntly, we got fed up with feeling like outcasts whenever we went on holiday with our two miniature Schnauzers.
So we decided to do something about it and began our own campaign to make life easier for all dog owners. The result is www.DogFriendlyBritain.co.uk, which we started two years ago and now lists thousands of dog-friendly hotels, guest houses, pubs, cafes, parks and beaches all over the UK.
Users can search by town or county - so, wherever they are going in the UK, they can be sure of finding a place which will welcome both them and their dog(s).
It seems that Julie Dickens and ourselves aren't alone in our frustration either. The site has proved amazingly popular - with more than 40,000 visitors and more than two million hits expected this month alone.
It's been more successful than we imagined - so much so that it provides a full-time job for both of us now and proves just how difficult the situation can be for us dog owners.
Please let us know of any dog friendly places you come across so that we can add them to our ever growing list. Together we can solve this problem.
