Boris Johnson and his wife broke strict coronavirus restrictions last Christmas, according to reports.
Downing Street has been forced to address claims that the couple’s friend, Nimco Ali, joined them over the festive period despite festive gatherings being banned at the time.
The allegations first appeared in the US in Harper’s Magazine where it was alleged Ms Ali, who is the godmother of the Prime Minister’s 17-month-old son “spent Christmas with the couple at No10 despite pandemic restrictions on holiday gatherings”.
Last year, plans to allow mixing between households were scrapped at the last minute due to a concerning rise in coronavirus infections.
Social mixing was restricted to just one person in an open public space, unless people lived with them or they were part of their existing support bubble.
Downing Street address allegations Boris Johnson broke Christmas Covid rules
A No.10 spokesperson has said the couple did not break the Covid restrictions in place over the Christmas period.
A No 10 spokesman said: “The Prime Minister and Mrs Johnson have followed coronavirus rules at all times. It is totally untrue to suggest otherwise.”
The Prime Minister’s spokeswoman added: “The PM and Mrs Johnson have followed coronavirus rules at all times. It is totally untrue to suggest otherwise.”
Downing Street will face further questioning today when the Prime Minister’s official spokesperson will face questions from journalists in Westminster.
