Acomb Hockey Club's mixed team were beaten 4-2 at Wakefield II.
Acomb took the lead when a reverse stick strike by Matthew Dickenson found the corner.
Wakefield rallied well and, despite some excellent work by Steve Church in the Tangerines goal, the home side scored twice.
Rachel Holmes equalised just on half-time following good work by her twin sister, Sarah, and Adrian Martin, but the home side added two second half goals.
City of York Vets were 8-5 winners over Harrogate Vets in the Yorkshire Cup.
The club's next cup game will be against Lincoln at the University of York on January 27, at 2pm.
