GO Outdoors is relocating from York city centre to an out-of-town shopping site - but wants more space to launch new products and services.
The camping and outdoor activity goods retailer - the largest in UK - plans to move into the former Argos building at Clifton Moor retail park in Hurricane Way.
It's a revival of fortune for the retail giant which had been placed into administration last year.
Go Outdoors' owners are applying to City of York Council to extend the mezzanine floor of the Clifton Moor site in order to accommodate the company's full range of products and services, including two new ones.
The new out-of-town store is smaller than the city centre unit at Foss Bank, next to Sainsbury's according to planning documents.
The extended mezzanine would give Go Outdoors a similar footprint to the Foss Bank site, and enough space to accommodate its popular Naylors equestrian and Fishing Republic outlets as well as a new dedicated cycling shop and repair area, and a click and collect counter.
In a document to planners, agency First Plan, for the applicants, said: "Go Outdoors are expanding the range of bikes and cycle equipment/accessories on display in the store.
"It is also intended to provide a new cycle repair workshop, offering customers a cycle repair service, including participation in the Government’s Fix Your Bike Voucher scheme."
Go Outdoors first opened at Foss Bank in 2011 - the building was previously Homebase.
The retail giant's future looked bleak last year when its owners JD Sports placed it into administration - but it was then bought back out again for £56.5 million, saving jobs across the country.
