YORK darts player Martyn Turner reached the last 32 of the PDC Blue Square UK Open North-East regional tournament in Gateshead.

Turner beat Roland Scholten 5-4 in round two and Andy Jenkins 5-1 in round three, before he was whitewashed by Bristol's rising star Steve Brown at Gateshead International Stadium.

Colin Osborne claimed his second ranking title with an 8-6 defeat of Denis Ovens in the final.

Derby-based Osborne ensured one of the top seedings for the UK Open's televised finals in Bolton in June with a resilient performance to take the £6,000 first prize.

The PDC circuit continues this weekend with two Stan James Players Championship events in Gibraltar.
