I have just read "Vision of light" (The Press, January 1) and wondered if Coun Vassie could perhaps enlighten me as to where their "trendy" expensive tree which was in Parliament Street Christmas 2006/7 has actually been put up this year.
It was hailed as a new, longer-lasting way to light up York (bearing in mind a whole panel was out by the second week) and I assumed by the amount of money spent and the way it was lauded that it would be put up year after year, and last far longer than one Christmas.
Ben King mentions traditional lights and perhaps if all of them were lit it would be a start as in Walmgate, where half the lights were out, and also were the Dean Court hotel lights out around the tree trunks.
I also think York was not as sparkly as it could have been.
