Three casualties were airlifted to hospital in a two-vehicle smash on a main road near York.
The accident happened at about 11.40am today, when a Nissan Almera and a Ford Focus collided on the A1079 at Wilberfoss.
Humberside Police are currently investigating the circumstances of the collision and the road is expected to be closed for four hours.
A police spokesperson said: "There was one person in the Ford Focus and two people in the Almera. All three were trapped, but have now been released."
One casualty was taken to Leeds General Infirmary via Yorkshire Air Ambulance and an RAF Sea King helicopter has taken two more casualties to York Hospital.
It is not known whether the injuries are life-threatening.
