A MAN was killed when he was struck by a train at Dringhouses yesterday.

The man, who has not been identified but is believed to be in his late 40s or early 50s, was hit by a TransPennine Express train at around 7pm on the tracks near St Helen's Road.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sgt Robin Edwards, of British Transport Police, said there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the man's death and officers are currently working to identify him.

A spokesman for TransPennine Express said the train involved was the 5.45pm Scarborough to Liverpool service which was then delayed by an hour but that the driver was able to carry on through to Manchester.

The incident is unrelated to that which occurred at York station yesterday afternoon in which a man miraculously survived unharmed when he fell from the platform into the path of a moving train.
