And now for the good news. Festive drinkers in North Yorkshire seem to have heeded the police's warnings about drink-driving.
Despite a massive police winter road safety campaign, just 119 motorists were arrested following breath tests between December 1 and January 1 - 32 fewer than the year before.
The figures suggest that motorists in our area are far less likely to drink and drive than those elsewhere.
Yet another demonstration of Yorkshire good sense.
