YOUNGSTERS from New Earswick Swimming Club came home with a clutch of medals and good performances from the annual Borough of Barnsley sprints meet.
The club's swimmers claimed 23 trophies and 30 speeding tickets, handed out to those whose times improved enough for them to become too fast for their category.
Gold medal awards were won by 13-year-old Katie Proctor (C' grade 50 freestyle), 15-year-old Gemma Oliver (C' grade 50 backstroke), 15-year-old Jonathan Woodford (C' grade 50 breaststroke) and 16-year-old Liam Killen (B' grade 50 breast).
Top six awards went to Elizabeth Ormerod (second free), Josh King (second free and sixth back), James Fligg (second breast and fourth butterfly), Emily Broadbent (second fly), Amber Moorcroft (third free and third breast), Yvette Shaw (third fly), Sarah Graves (fourth breast, sixth free and sixth fly), Ben King (fourth breast), Hannah Sturdy (fourth breast), Jack Taylor (fourth breast and fifth fly), Jessica Oliver (fifth breast), Thomas Lund (fifth free) and Louis Fligg (sixth breast).
Many swimmers were clocked as being too fast for their category, including Rachel Openshaw, Steph Woodford, Darianne Helstrip, Charlotte Harrison, Amy Taylor, Daniel Hynes and Patrick Good, who wore a New Earswick cap despite applying for the gala with Tadcaster Swimming Club.
There were also impressive performances by Katie Buchanan, nine, and ten-year-old Mathew Graves, who were both attending their first ASA gala.
New Earswick coaches Mick Oliver and George Oliver were delighted with the club's set of results.
