YORK RUFC's Under-15s are learning fast.
The young Clifton Parkers put on a second half power show in the derby clash with Pocklington last weekend - scoring 29 unanswered points in a 34-10 demolition job.
That was after falling to an early 10-0 deficit in difficult wintry conditions.
But coach Steve Maud reckons his side are made of stern stuff and they proved it with a hat-trick of tries coming from number eight Edward Buck and scores from Eric Hall, Jarrod Bainbridge and Freddie Portrykus securing the win.
Captain Jack Maud also weighed in with a couple of conversions.
They may still be a touch behind the top tier of Yorkshire teams but Maud, who has seen his charges lose just once so far this season, believes they are a side on the up.
"Our discipline was excellent," he said.
"The front five dominated the second half which gave the backs the room they needed.
"We won the battle up front, allowing the back row to operate, and that maximised our opportunities.
"This is a team going in the right direction. They have come on leaps and bounds from last year. We are still a little off the top teams like Otley, for example, who are in front of us.
"But we have lost just one game and that was when we had only 12 players, so we are a side moving in the right way. It was a good game and Pocklington played their part.
"They were too much for us early on until we started playing to our strengths."
Pocklington Under-7s, U8s, U9s U10s are at Malton tomorrow, while Pock U11s and U12s also play the Ryedale club with the venue to be confirmed.
