YORK'S Under-13s Schoolboys opened their 2008 programme with a 3-1 defeat at Leeds.
York started positively with an attack down the right flank, resulting in a Paul Winterburn shot just going wide.
But Winterburn was forced off the field with a foot injury shortly afterwards.
Leeds opened the scoring when an offside flag failed to materialise and the hosts broke clear.
But gritty York refused to bow down and man of the match Ash Taylor belted a 30-yard shot into the net on the stroke of half-time.
The second half performance was promising and great displays by Tom Allen and captain Jack Ryder in the middle of the park gave York a glimmer of snatching a late win.
However, Leeds took advantage of the roll on-roll off subs, while York started to fade as they had travelled with just 12 players.
A two-goal burst in the last five minutes earned Leeds a 3-1 win.
