COUNCILLORS are set to replace outdated computers with newer, more environmentally-friendly ones.
City of York Council's corporate services panel will meet next week to discuss proposals to replace the oldest and least efficient equipment in the council.
The proposals would be funded by savings made during the year by the IT department.
A report to the Corporate Services Panel recommends that over the next two years the council replaces 800 of its old PCs - some of which were bought as long ago as 1995 - with more energy-efficient, slimmed-down computers.
Coun Ceredig Jamieson-Ball, executive member for corporate services, said: "Reducing energy consumption and cutting carbon emissions is a top priority for the Liberal Democrats, and I am therefore delighted to support this initiative."
