ADVISERS in York are reminding people that they may be eligible to claim a number of different benefits.
Research shows that many people over 60 do not claim all the benefits to which they are entitled.
City of York Council advisers say anyone over 60 may be eligible for benefits if they are living on a modest income, or have a long term health problem that affects their everyday activities, regardless of income. Mike Coda, of the council's benefits team, said: "It doesn't matter if people have been turned down before; it is still worth giving us a call so that we can check if you entitled to get something extra."
Ceredig Jamieson-Ball, the council's executive member for corporate services, said: "We are keen to ensure that we support all residents to get the benefits they are entitled to.
"We've had a significant rise in the number of residents taking up their entitlement of benefits over recent years, and we're aiming to build on this success and help as many people as possible."
Anyone who thinks they could be missing out, or would like help with benefit claim forms, should phone 01904 551111. Benefits advisors are also happy to attend community or voluntary groups to offer advice.
