City of York Ladies first XI failed to capitalise on chances created to go in 2-1 down at half-time to visiting Wigton.
The closeness of the first half was then contrasted in the second when York allowed Wigton too much space on the ball and were severely punished on the break to lose 7-2.
Sally Sleightholme bagged both York goals, but the manner of the collapse was hardly a good omen for next week's trip to Lancaster.
Under the leadership of new skipper Sam Buckley, City of York Ladies 4ths routed Sheffield Hallam 5ths 8-1.
The power was turned on by the York ranks after the first half in which Sarah Davies and Helen Davis were on target.
Once Becky Copperthwaite scored early after the break there was no turning back. Further goals flowed from Holly Scrafton and Copperthwaite before Sheffield trimmed the arrears.
It was a mere respite, however, as York drove on with Leanne Welford and Anwen Hughes scoring before Copperthwaite completed a deserved hat-trick.
Such was the impressiveness of the performance, the entire team was awarded the collective player of the match.
