A BURGLAR will be sentenced at York Crown Court after magistrates heard of his long criminal record.
Steven Paul Patrick Quinn, 35, of Pottery Lane, in York, pleaded guilty at York Magistrates' Court yesterday to burgling a garage in Bedale Avenue, in the city, on October 15 last year.
Trevor Beddoe, prosecuting, told the court Quinn had burgled the garage sometime between 8.30am and 3.15pm. He had removed wooden shutters from the windows, allowing him to gain entry.
Once inside he stole a Kona bicycle worth £750.
Mr Beddoe said when scenes of crime officers examined the window they found Quinn's fingerprints on the glass. But despite being unable to explain why his prints were there, Quinn maintained his innocence until yesterday, the date of his trial, when he pleaded guilty.
Kevin Blount, defending, said Quinn's most recent conviction was in 2006 for burgling a garage. For that he was jailed for 18 months.
Given his record magistrates felt that their sentencing powers - which allow them to jail people for up to six months - were insufficient and ordered Quinn to appear before York Crown Court for sentencing in the week commencing February 25.
There was no application for bail and he was remanded in custody.
