ACOMB Hockey Club men's first team began 2008 as they mean to go on with a 3-1 win at Boston Spa.
It was their first away victory of the season, and they did it after going a goal down.
They equalised from their second short corner, through Mark Gibbons, then went ahead from a set piece finished by Pete Hilton, with David Brown adding their third goal from a tight angle.
Acomb Ladies had mixed luck in their double-header, but remain top of the table.
Kerry Rafton scored a last-minute winner as they won 3-2 at Otliensians, but the following day they lost 4-2 in their rearranged game against Ben Rhydding III, despite a player-of-the-match display from goalkeeper Sarah Milburn.
Rafton opened the scoring just before half-time against Otliensians but the hosts applied pressure after the interval and equalised. Kerry Woods regained Acomb's lead, which they held until five minutes from time, when Otliensians again levelled. Rafton nevertheless had the last laugh.
Acomb started against Ben Rhydding III as they had finished against Otliensians, with Annie Pye scoring within a minute.
But the visitors hit back twice and, although Pye levelled, Rhydding retook the lead and sealed the result late on.
Acomb Ladies second team's game was cancelled.
