York Indoor Bowls Club's Yetton Trophy campaign came to an end when they lost 78-72 to Cumbria in the zone final with both teams making the most of home advantage.

At Thanet Road, Melanie Brooke's rink scored 13 unanswered shots over the last five ends to win 28-9.

Linda Harrison's four also finished well, winning their last three, to turn around a 15-11 deficit after 12 ends to win 27-18.

In Carlisle, the turning-point in the match was when Carol Instone's rink laid four shots only for the home skip to move the jack with her last wood and pick up five to make the score en route to a 28-9 victory.

Helen Walker's rink also had a tough time, losing 24-8.

York suffered a double whammy with another zone final loss to the Cumbrians.

This time it was in the Egham Trophy. York failed to capitalise on a good start where they led 24-12 on aggregate after only five ends. Despite a brief rally, they eventually lost 85-58.

Only David Stroughair's away rink won. Down 9-1 after seven ends, they won all but three ends to finish 18-15 up.

York look to be losing both their Under-18s and Over-55s county division one titles after bad defeats.

The O55s lost 78-73 to South Leeds, only picking up four points and one winning rink thanks to Malcolm Harrison's away team. They got off to a great start scoring a seven on the first end and a six on the 13th to wind up 29-17 winners.

With two games left, York trail leaders Featherstone, who have a game in hand, by 17 points.

The U18s side lost 30-17 at Thornaby giving the hosts' A' team six vital aggregate points.

Adam Liddell's team got within two shots at 9-7, but lost the last three ends to perish 14-7.

Adam Tattersall's side were trailing 10-7 before losing two successive ends and eventually being toppled 16-10.

But, York atoned in their second game, beating Scarborough 29-23 to claim four points.

Liddell's rink had a fine 21-9 victory, including a six.

Tattersall's rink got within three shots at 11-8 but lost the last three ends to lose 14-8.

York now play at Hornsea and Scarborough with a chance of finishing as runners up and a place in the Challenge Cup.

Tomorrow, York IBC host the National Area Under-25 Singles final between Hornsea's Scott Burrell and Huddersfield's Jack Dyson, starting at 7.30pm.

On Monday the club hosts the National Area Over-60s Pairs final between Andy Lockwood's Featherstone team and Tony Walker's from Hornsea, starting 2.30pm.
