Yet another weekend of match action looks to be under threat as the River Ouse reached its highest level for a number of years this week.
The odds on levels dropping sufficiently by tomorrow to allow the pegging of the weekend's only match booking appear long to say the least.
If cancelled, it will be the third leg of the Acomb Tackle York Winter League lost to flooding this series.
It is an unprecedented event and a timely reminder of the effect climate change will increasingly have to play in all our daily lives.
With little river action available last weekend, apart from the hardy souls who battled a raging Ouse at Hunters Lodge on Sunday, it was left, once again to the many lakes and canals that pepper the Vale of York to provide some shelter from the rising tides.
Bethany's Lake had the edge at Langwith for a change, producing four in the frame including winner Ray Kay at peg 26.
In the mild conditions, pellet ousted maggots as the top scoring bait and Kay's 13m attack produced a solid 62lb 2oz as carp to 2lb responded. Heading home the rest with 57lb 1oz was Dave Bouja who also opted for pellet, fished down the track at peg 3 on Kevin's Lake.
Result: 1 Ray Kay, Eccleshill, 62-2-0; 2 Dave Bouja, Eccleshill, 57-1-0; 3 Keith Garner, Spenborough, 51-7-0; 4 Simon Beswick, Tri-Cast Rochdale, 46-4-0; 5 Steve Hawkins, Eccleshill, 41-0-0; 6 Tim Russell, York Tackle, 38-10-0.
Just 24 hours earlier, the Leeds match looked in doubt but the river dropped 5ft overnight leaving a modest 7ft of badly coloured water to contend with.
Weights were better than could have been expected and Keith Mottram managed to put a level 8lb on the scales to register his win.
Drawn 198 at Hunter's Lodge, Mottram offered worm on the feeder three rods out to beat a bream of 6lb and added half a dozen decent roach on the same tactics.
Pete Hyde fished the same way at 219 to also net a solo bream with six redfins for 6lb 4oz, while Chris Gowling managed a similar net at 295 to finish half an ounce behind for third place.
Result: 1 Keith Mottram, Aireborough, 8-0-0; 2 Pete Hyde, Leeds Angling, 6-4-0; 3 Chris Gowling, Shimano Quaker, 6-3-8; 4 Craig Turbitt, Sensas Wibsey, 5-3-0; 5 Ian Bates, Hirst Tackle, 4-11-0; 6 Tony Earnshaw, Hirst Tackle, 4-0-0.
* Gary Sewell beat a field of 22 to win the Pool Bridge Lakes Open match on Horseshoe and Norman's Lake.
Fishing at peg 13, Sewell's winning weight was 19lb 1oz, with Alan Clarkson second at 14lb 10oz, and Ken Gale third with 14lb 4oz.
The next open match will be held on Sunday, with the peg draw at 9am and the match from 10am to 3pm.
* The Selby Canal was badly flooded on Sunday but it was fishable and small silver fish showed in respectable numbers.
Winner Barry Howgate managed to extract 60 roach using punch at peg 22 to win with a haul of 2lb 2oz.
Lee Kerry nicked second with 1lb 10oz of roach and rudd that fell to pinkie fished on the long pole at peg 2.
Result: 1 Barry Howgate, Hull DAA, 2-2-0; 2 Lee Kerry, Garbolino Ossett, 1-10-0; 3 Pete Riley, Tri-Cast Scunthorpe Tackle, 1-9-0; 4 Phil Iveson, VDE Maver Barnsley, 1-8-0; 5 Joe Carrass, Garbolino Ossett, 1-7-0; 6 Steve Richardson, Tri-Cast Scunthorpe Tackle, 1-6-0.
