THE next Lord Mayor of York has been named.
Independent councillor David Carr has been Copmanthorpe ward councillor since 2015 and was announced as the Lord Mayor elect yesterday (February 17).
He will replace the current Lord Mayor, Cllr Chris Cullick, later this year and will be joined by former wheldrake councillor Suzie Mercer as Sheriff. She replaces Cllr Ashley Mason in the role.
A former council leader, Cllr Carr and Suzie Mercer both quit the Conservative party in 2018 and stood as independents in the May 2019 elections.
Both Cllr Carr and Suzie Mercer will take office at the end of May.
