HIGH winds which caused lorries to overturn meant traffic misery for motorists as they forced the closure of the A1 in North Yorkshire .
Nine trucks were blown over in the gales between 9.30am and 2.20pm, leading the police closing the motorway at Junction 49 at Dishforth and diverting traffic along the nearby A168.
Nobody was seriously injured in the string of accidents on the A1 between Wetherby and Scotch Corner, but huge traffic queues formed as officers from North Yorkshire Police and Durham Police were called in to remove the stricken lorries from the motorway.
