IT Sports Wigginton returned to winning ways in the Yorkshire Squash Premier League with a 3-2 win over Harrogate.

The win was a much- needed boost for reigning champions Wigginton, who have lost ground to leaders Chapel Allerton.

Starting the match off, Wigginton manager Ian Tooms was playing out of position at number three and was up against talented teenager Andrew Widdason.

Widdason, who is ranked six in the country at under-19 level, was never troubled by Tooms, who had no answer to his younger opponent's movement and winning shots as he lost 3-0.

Making his debut at number four for Wigginton was 23-year-old Chris Clarke, who was beaten 3-1 by England women's champion and number one Jenny Duncalf.

Duncalf took the tight first game but Clarke had the upper hand in the second and breezed through to make it 1-1. In the third, Duncalf seized the advantage on the way to a 3-1 win.

Wigginton number two Neil Cordell took on Adam Nowakowski, who raced into an early lead in the first game. He was 7-1 in front but was unable to kill the game and Cordell rallied to win 12-10. The effects of that first game proved too much for Nowakowski as Cordell went on to win 3-0.

Andy Whipp, at number one, dominated from the start against Mike Pearson to win 3-0.

With the match tied at 2-2, Wigginton's Jonny Duffield took an early advantage against Harrogate's David Duncalf. In the second, Duncalf upset Duffield with some well executed drop shots to tie 1-1.

Duffield raised his game in the third and worked on tiring his opponent out with some relentless running as he took the game.

The fourth game turned into a dog fight and, although Duffield led most of the way, Duncalf took the game. The players traded blows in the decider but, after a 70-minute epic, Duffield finally won the game 3-2 to sealed the win.
