THE battle of the Selby clubs in Men's Division Two of the York Badminton League saw Selby/Drax B' beat Selby Jubilee 5-4 in a tense encounter.

The match was tied at 4-4 going into the final rubber, in which Steve Falkingham and Mike Ross kept their nerve to beat Paul Newnham and Simon Benson 23-21, 27-25 to clinch the win.

York RI Tuesday/Thursday B' made it three wins in a row after a 7-2 home success over Clifton C' in Men's Two.

Dave Bainbridge and Dave Preece led the line for Institute with three wins for a total of 145-90.

Pocklington moved into second place in Men's Three with a 6-3 win at York RI Tuesday/Thursday C'.

Ted Donkin and James Neary continued their excellent form with three straight Pocklington wins for 126-84.

Third-placed University Staff Club beat top club Knavesmire in Men's Three.

Staff Club's Lim Eng Kiat and Ziaocheng Ge hit top form to dominate the opposition with three straight wins for 126-89.

York RI B' had to work hard for a 5-4 away win over Selby/Drax A' in Mixed One.

Michelle Hall and Scott Anderson set the Selby pace with three wins for 140-115 but, at 4-4 going into the last rubber, Richard Pauw and Karen Wedgewood swung the result with a 25-23, 21-13 success over Phil Brunyard and Aileen Graham.

University Students A' made it three wins from six games in Mixed One with a narrow 5-4 campus triumph over Riverside A'.

Jonty Hiley and Nicci Farr proved their value to the students once again with a match-winning maximum for a total of 126-71 from three straight wins.

The battle of the top clubs in Mixed Two saw Tadcaster 86 A' claim the top spot with a 6-3 home win over Shepherds A'.

Phil Zealand and Liz Rowlatt kept up their excellent form with three home wins for 142-103.

They were well backed up by team-mates Pete Smith and Lesley Bowling, who also took three home wins for 170-158 from three three-end rubbers.

Huntington A' broke their duck in Mixed Two with a close 5-4 home win over Clifton C'.

Ian Sadler and Gerry Screeton took three Clifton wins for 128-112, but Clive Debenham and Beth Tebbutt sealed the overall win with a 21-16, 22-24, 21-17 triumph over John Gibson and Lucy Smith.

University Students B' kept in the promotion shake-up in Mixed Three with a 7-2 home win over Nestlé B'.

Paddy Clarke and Lucy Wallington were the pick of the campus pairs with three wins for a total of 142-117.

Nestlé B' suffered a further 7-2 reverse when they visited second-placed Knavesmire. Dave Brogden and Joy Wilson proved reliable for the home team once again when they picked up three straight wins for a 129-79 success.

Huntington B', struggling for consistency in Mixed Four, went down 7-2 at home to University Staff Club. Lim Eng Kiat and Sheila Mackarel put in the best University display that saw them take their allocation for a total of 161-130.

RI Tuesday/Thursday C' made it three from four after a comprehensive 9-0 home win over luckless Terry's in Mixed Five.
