IN-FORM City of York athlete Richard Buck was one of six Great Britain gold medalists as the hosts won the Norwich Union International in Glasgow.
The 21-year-old maintained his impressive early season indoor form to beat reigning two-time world indoor 400 metres champion Alleyne Francique. The final 100 metres were crucial as the Pickering-based athlete came home in 47.76 secs.
Overall Britain edged out the US by one point to win the international meet, which also included teams from Sweden, Germany and a Commonwealth select squad.
Buck's win came hot on the heels of his personal best of 47.05 seconds to take gold at Northern Indoor Championships in Sheffield.
A place in the British team at the World Indoor Championships is Buck's goal and the next stepping stone could be the Norwich Union World Trials & UK Championships in Sheffield on February 9 and 10.
Buck, a second year student at Leeds Metropolitan University, was part of the Great Britain 4x400m relay team at the World Championships last year and is hoping to go one better and gain an individual place for the Beijing Olympics this year.
