HUNDREDS of young scientists are set to converge on a North Yorkshire secondary school next week.
Tadcaster Grammar School is to host a Science and Engineering Club (SEC) workshop aimed at capturing and sharing good practice among the network of smaller school clubs from across the region.
The workshop, funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families, will take place on Monday, and is the first of 15 such events in England. Teachers from all SEC schools in the region have been invited to attend, when they will discuss their experiences of running the clubs, share activity ideas and create school-to-school networks.
The club was launched in March 2007, with 250 schools across England being selected to receive funding, 24 of them being here in Yorkshire and the Humber.
A unique feature of the club is that the schools must involve input and activities from the science, design and technology and maths departments to provide the participants with a greater understanding of the roles that science, technology, engineering and maths play in the real world.
