I WAS surprised and perturbed to read in the ward newsletter the proposal to move the bus stop in Earswick village. I strongly oppose such action.

I have lived in the village for more than 23 years; the bus stop has been in that position all those years and more besides.

The present bus stop has a purpose-built shelter and sufficient lighting to show when people are waiting.

Like myself, many of my neighbours and elderly and infirm. I, myself, am disabled following an accident, I am also partially sighted. Having to walk so far up the road in the wrong direction is out of the question for many frail persons.

If the new housing estate needs its own bus stop, then by all means create one, but leave our bus stop where it is.

The Highway Code is very clear about roundabouts, telling motorists that if the way isn't clear, they have to wait.

Regarding busses picking up passengers at an acknowledged bus stop, the bus can stop for as long as it takes. The code makes it clear motorists must not overtake unless it is clear to do so.

I can't understand why the council wants to bend over backwards just to please a handful of drivers bent on breaking the Highway Code.
