A WELL-KNOWN family building business in York has filed for administration.
The 30 employees of Sanderdale Ltd, based in Rosetta Way off Boroughbridge Road, have now been informed of the plans to wind up the £3.5 million company, which had a huge reputation for its building, conservation and shopfitting work throughout York and Yorkshire.
Mark Pavis, managing director and other members of the Pavis family, have declined to comment until an administrator is appointed, but company accountant Mark Shepherd said: "It was an historical problem that the company tried to trade through and it just hasn't happened.
"These are tense moments for the workforce but there may be solutions. We don't know what administrators are going to do.
"Wild rumours were floating throughout York, but many of our suppliers and sub-contractors who are affected have been very sympathetic and very loyal.
"That is the big regret of the (Pavis) family - that people they have known for many years may be affected."
The firm was established in 1981 and moved from Strensall to its base in Isis Court, Rosetta Way, two years ago.
Among its many clients have been the York Conservation Trust, Castle Howard and Facia5 Development.
