THE heatwave came to an end with a bang in York as a thunderstorm brought heavy rain, thunder and lightning to the city last night.
And York Press Camera Club member Kieran Delaney was in the right place at the right time to get a great picture of one of the lightning bolts.
He was at Spark:York, the street food and drinks venue in Piccadilly. "It was perfectly fitting for the lightning spark!" he said. "Sometimes, it's about these exact moments."
A Met Office yellow warning said there was a further risk of thunderstorms for the rest of today in York and North Yorkshire, which could bring lightning strikes and flash flooding.
But much fresher and cooler weather has now arrived, with temperatures expected to fall to a maximum of just 19C in York tomorrow and hover in the low 20s for the rest of the week, with a lot of cloud and some sunshine at times.
