HUNDREDS of York's senior residents are invited to join The Lord Mayor and Sherriff's special Christmas Cheer Receptions.

The annual receptions will take place at the Assembly Rooms on Tuesday December 5 for 400 residents aged 65 and over. Those that are eligible can choose to attend either the morning event at 10am or in the afternoon at 2pm.

Guests will be welcomed to the venue where musical entertainment will be performed by choirs from Clifton Green and St George’s Roman Catholic primary schools and by the York Philharmonic Male Voice Choir. A selection of tasty Christmas treats will be served to those in attendance.

The Right Honourable Lord Mayor of York, Revd Cllr Chris Cullwick, said: “The Civic Party is pleased to be able to offer this very special opportunity to bring older members of the community together in the iconic Assembly Rooms and we look forward to sharing some Christmas cheer.

"Thank you so much to the choirs for coming to share their talents and providing their very welcome entertainment."

As part of Christmas Cheer, a very popular raffle will take place. Any local businesses are invited to kindly donate prizes. Any firms wishing to take part can email civic@york.gov.uk before Friday November 13 for more information.

"I greatly appreciate the support of businesses who support the events’ very popular raffles. These give our residents an extra treat at Christmastime and add greatly to our Christmas Cheer events," the Lord Mayor added.

Two hundred people can attend each reception and applicants can specify if they would prefer to go to the morning or afternoon events. To attend either of the receptions, residents are invited to complete an application form.

These can be picked up from the council’s Customer Centre at West Offices, at York Explore or from any York library. The organisers will do their best to match first choices, depending on the number of applications received.

All completed application forms should be sent or handed in to ‘The Christmas Cheer Draw’, at Civic Services, West Offices, Station Rise, York, YO1 6GA - to arrive no later than Thursday November 16.

Names will be drawn at random on Friday November 17 and those chosen will be a sent a ticket for one of the sessions.
