Last week, the Mount School York hosted a swimming competition against the other Quaker school in York, Bootham School. The two schools have always maintained a healthy and friendly rivalry, and this was one of their many competitions over the school year.

The girls from both schools prepared tirelessly in the weeks leading up to this competition, with intense training every week, along with organising of the participants from each age group. The girls had to build up speed and stamina to complete this completion, and that they did.

The competition was divided into age groups, the youngest group being girls from Year 7 to 8, then there was the Year 9-10 group, and finally the Year 11-13 girls.

The competition involved girls of all ages, allowing the competition to be spread around the whole school, because of that the stands were filled with girls of various ages and schools cheering their friends on. It was a wholesome moment, that showed the unity that sport brings.

Each group competed in 6 different categories, Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Butterfly, along with two relays. Butterfly is known to be one of the hardest strokes to complete, and yet all of the girls excelled at it, even the youngest group.

After one hour filled with more than 15 matches, the competition was over, and the winner was announced. The Mount was declared the winner of this event, however, more competitions are soon to follow that may alter the results. The girls are for sure already preparing themselves for those upcoming
competitions.

The amazing personnel present made sure to keep the competition fair, and alongside the girl’s supreme sportsmanship, the atmosphere present at the event was kept relaxed and supportive. The girls reported that they had an amazing time.

Both schools swam extremely well, and each gave their best, thus a huge congratulations is due to both schools.
