A person has been hit by a train on the York line, a rail firm said.
LNER said rail services have been disrupted after the incident which happened between York and Newcastle today (Tuesday, July 16).
National Rail said major disruption is expected until the end of the day.
Whilst lines were reopened as of 5:20pm, trains may be cancelled, severely delayed by up to 120 minutes, or revised.
A spokesperson for LNER, which operates the East Coast Main Line, said: “It is with great sadness that we report that a person has been hit by a train between York and Newcastle.”
Ticket exchange is in place for those wanting to travel another time.
