TWO motorists from York and North Yorkshire have been banned and two more given penalty points after they failed to respond to court summons and their cases were heard in their absence. 

Linden Smith, 29, of Kirkham Avenue, off Huntington Road, York, was convicted at Skipton Magistrates Court of failure to tell police who was driving his car when it allegedly broke a traffic law. He was fined £660 and ordered to pay £650 prosecution costs and a £264 statutory surcharge and given six penalty points.

Three were sentenced at Bradford Magistrates Court

Caroline Legard, 77, of Scampston near Malton, was convicted of speeding at 44 mph in a 30 mph zone in Walton near Tadcaster. She was fined £440, ordered to pay a £176 statutory surcharge and £90 prosecution costs and banned from driving for six months.

Dane Smith, 40, of The Village, Stockton on the Forest, was convicted of failing to tell police who was driving his car when it was allegedly speeding at 45 mph in a 30 mph zone in Leeds. He was banned from driving for six months, fined £660 and ordered to pay a £264 statutory surcharge and £90 prosecution costs.

Dean William Frankish, 31, of Riccall Lane, Kelfield, was convicted of driving without insurance in Leeds. He was banned from driving for six months, fined £660 and ordered to pay a £264 statutory surcharge and £90 prosecution costs.
