CAMRA have announced joint-winners for this year’s Yorkshire Pub of the Year competition.

They are the Three B’s Micropub at 2 Marshall Street, Bridlington, and the Beer Engine at 1 Albert Street, Skipton.

The Three B’s opened in 2020 and is run by dedicated CAMRA member Mark Bates and set over two floors. It usually has 4 ales typically from Yorkshire micro-breweries and will usually feature high-gravity dark beer. It was also Regional Cider Pub of the Year 2023 with a range of 10 or more ciders. Homemade sausage plus pie & peas are available.

The Beer Engine has two directors, Adam Davies and Steven Gregory and is a well-established micro-pub with six handpumps serving at lease one blonde and, one dark beer and one character beer. Extended in 2022, the bar now has craft keg fonts. The venue is praised for a warm welcome, which includes dogs.

CAMRA’s Yorkshire Regional Director, Kevin Keaveny, said “The result of this year’s competition shows that micropubs continue to be popular with CAMRA members and discerning drinkers. We are recognising the efforts made by enthusiastic and hard-working management, and their staff.”

Some 17 entries were put forward by local branches, which were then visited by individual members of a judging panel over 4 months. They were scored on Quality and Choice of Real Ale, Style/Decor, and Service and Value.

York CAMRA submitted the Swan on Bishopthorpe Road; Harrogate CAMRA submitted the Harrogate Tap by the station and Scarborough CAMRA submitted the Scholars Bar in Somerset Terrace.
