Meet Cheddar, the Husky/ German Shepherd cross who has come through hard times, and is now ready for a second chance in a new home.

Cheddar, who is thought to be three or four years old, was brought to the RSPCA's York animal home off Landing Lane by an inspector.

Staff at the animal home say his welfare had 'become compromised'.

"Unfortunately Cheddar has had a pretty tough life up to now and he now looking for a second chance," says a member of staff at the animal home.

Cheddar is 'looking for adopters who are experienced with dogs that need some understanding, patience and lots of TLC', the staff member added.

The RSPCA says that, once Cheddar has had a chance to get to know you, he is a 'very affectionate boy who loves to be with his people'.

"He is a very loyal dog who will make a wonderful best friend for the right person," the member of staff said.

Cheddar will need adopters who will be prepared to help him with his insecurities - and help him make up for lost time.

"Potential adopters will need to meet with our behaviourist before adoption to give him the best chance of settling in to his new home," the staff member said.

Cheddar will need to be the only pet in an adult only home.
